8/4/11 – Michael Floyd

I’d like to welcome back Notre Dame to the big time college football elite. The Irish have struggled in recent years, becoming clearly they are on the path back to the top of the sport.

That became obvious this week when Coach Brian Kelly instated wide receiver Michael Floyd to the team. Earlier this year Floyd was arrested on a drunken driven charge. It was his third alcohol-related arrest in two years. Michael, it appears, has a problem of when to say no.

Floyd has apologized and received counseling. Kelly said he knew there’d be cynics but added, “We can’t change what people think.”

Kelly shouldn’t be such a cynic himself. I’m sure he’s thinking only of the young man.

Did I mention Floyd is very talented? He planned to enter this year’s NFL draft, but changed his mind after his latest arrest. He is second all-time in Notre Dame history in TDs catches and total receptions.

Pure coincidence, I’m sure.
