8/12/11 – NCAA Reforms

NCAA administrators are meeting in Indianapolis and promise to make some sweeping changes in the wake of a flood of major scandals involving some of America’s top schools. They are targeting the two major sports, football and basketball.

I think their task is simple. I offer these reforms to be implemented immediately:

1. Any violation that impacts an athlete also punishes the offending coach.

2. Make all scholarships 4-year grants and the scholarships count against the school for the duration unless athletes leave school early for the pros.

3. Restrict recruiting period to two six-week stretches.

4. Raise academic standards for admission to minimum of 80 percent for regular students.

5. Increase value of scholarships to include $200 a month for incidentals.
