7/8/11 – Brent Benedict

Brent Benedict and his family want to be left alone as they decide where Brent will transfer to continue his college football career. They want the “personal reasons” Brent left Georgia to remain private. As a father and grandfather I certainly understand their feelings.

But . . . yeah, there’s a big BUT coming.

The former standout offensive lineman at The Bolles School and his family have to understanding that once you step into the world of big-time sports with all of its media coverage you have said good bye to privacy. I’m not talking right or wrong. I’m talking about the way it is.

I don’t know the Benedict family but I’ve heard nothing but nice things about them. I don’t know what happened at Georgia, but I’m told there were no legal or academic problems. I wish Brent nothing but the best, but he and his family need to understand that if privacy is what they desire, then football needs to be something of the past. Few will care about a pre-law major, or whatever, no matter where he enrolls.
